Abstract: |
open area excavation. Three separate sites totalling 2000 sq m revealing a series of Roman ditches forming field boundaries and occasional pits/postholes. No structures positively identified but levels of pottery recovered suggest settlement site. Background of Early and Middle Iron Age pottery recovered as residual finds. Number of complete animal burials (1 horse, 1 pig/boar and 6 cows) recovered from a series of separate pits in a linear formation sealed beneath the fill of a Roman ditch - possibly ritual or just the discard of diseased animals - probably early Roman in date. |
