Abstract: |
Wessex Archaeology were commissioned by Saul Bros. Limited to carry out an archaeological watching brief during groundworks associated with the redevelopment of land at the rear of 32 Winchester Street, Salisbury SP1 1HG (NGR 414648 130006). The watching brief was undertaken on the 29th September 2014. The watching brief identified and recorded a single archaeological feature, a chalk rubble-built wall, surviving below modern and/or late post-medieval made-ground deposits. Although definitive dating evidence was not recovered, it was proposed that the wall may be of later medieval or post-medieval date. However, the limited depth of the excavations required to reach the formation level precluded the gathering of additional information which may have enabled more definitive conclusions to be drawn. |
