Abstract: |
A series of 16 evaluation trenches were excavated by Archaeological Services Durham University between 27 May and 4 June 2014 across the currently open ground to the south of Laverock Hall Road, on the southwestern side of Blyth, for URS in advance of a proposed development. This work followed previous geophysical surveying of the area. All the trenches measured 50m by 2m and were scattered across the area. These revealed only a series of probably ridge and furrow cultivation furrows in all bar two of the trenches. In the northern half of the site these were aligned north-east to south-west, and in the southern half of the site these were aligned north-west to south-east. These were cut into the yellow-brown clay and grey-brown clays which were identified as natural 0.30m below the current ground level of the area. |
