Abstract: |
Archaeological observations and recording were carried out by Terrain Archaeology during the construction of a new extension to the rear 46 Broad Street, Lyme Regis (SY34079215), in October 2004. This was on the site of the Great House, a late 16th/early 17th century house, demolished in 1913. The remains of a stone building with cobbled floor and stone drains were exposed. This was probably an outbuilding, perhaps a stable, behind the Great House. It appears to have been demolished in the 18th or early 19th century. Another cobbled surface was found at a higher level and may be the remains of an outbuilding behind the present buildings. |
