Abstract: |
A scheme of archaeological evaluation was carried out across land to the south of Broom Road. Eleven trenches were excavated across c.6ha covering at least 1% of the Proposed Development Area (PDA). A preceding stage of geophysical investigation (App. 5) identified sixteen discrete anomalies across the PDA and an area of weak positive linear anomalies towards the south-eastern portion of the site. A curvi-linear was also interpreted towards the northern end of area. The evaluation trenches were predominantly located to target a number of the geophysical anomalies and determined that the majority were natural geological features. A single anomaly corresponded to two intercutting ditches in Trench 3. The earlier of which contained both later prehistoric and medieval pottery. No other archaeological features were recorded. |
