Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was conducted for Wincer Kievenaar Chartered Architects ahead of development of a new stable building at Stutton House, Churchfield Road, Stutton, Suffolk. Four trenches were excavated within the footprint of the proposed stable block. No archaeological evidence was recovered during the evaluation, although one trench revealed a 19th-century land drain and a pond. A ground survey trench (percolation test pit) dug in 2012 was exposed in a second trench. It was intended to excavate two further trenches, sited on a proposed new driveway to the stable block. Assessment of the location, however, revealed the presence of a foul water drain and outlet, a land drain and electrical and water services, and the trench excavations were not carried out. |
