Abstract: |
The evaluation of a driveway at 6 Wood lane, Ramsey Abbey Gardens, produced conclusive evidence of archaeology being present on the site. The single trench, within the confined space of the privately owned garden, was sited directly over a large archaeological feature of undetermined scale and form. Archaeological deposits were encountered to a depth of 2.4m below the modern gravel drive surface. Excavation stopped at this point due to safety reasons. Datable material (13th to 16th century) was retrieved from all but the lowest four deposits, which comprised primary in washed sandy clays and gravels as well as well preserved organic matter. |
