Abstract: |
Headland Archaeology Ltd. undertook an archaeological watching brief on the land of The Hereford County Hospital, on area known as 'The Orchard' within the grounds of the hospital. Western Power Distribution excavated a service trench for installation of a high voltage electricity supply to the new radiotherapy unit. The site is within the Hereford Area of Archaeological Importance. The client has submitted appropriate documentation for the works under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979, as the site lies within the Hereford Area of Archaeological Importance, close to the burial ground of St. Guthlac's Priory. During ground works concrete and red brick remains of modern building were observed under thin topsoil layer. These are probably substructural instillations of the 1960s hospital building. No archaeological finds or features were present. |
