Abstract: |
Headland Archaeology (UK) Ltd conducted a trial trench evaluation on land west of Hall Barn Road in Isleham, Cambridgeshire, as part of a programme of archaeological evaluative works, in support of a planning application for the construction of a housing development. Evidence for prehistoric activity was indicated by finds of worked stones from the topsoil and subsoil and a single small pit. Medieval/post-medieval activity was present in the NW of the development, including a ditched boundary, a small quarry pit exploiting the local chalk and two sides of a possible building, which survived as a rectilinear gully and associated posthole. Pottery recovered from the site ranged from the 12th to 19th century AD. |
