Abstract: |
This report summarises the results of a project designed to develop methods for rapid identification of heritage assets using the Environment Agency (EA) lidar tiles in a manner similar to that for the existing reconnaissance recording programme. The project was designed to establish whether use of these sources was an effective method for national identification and provides some basic guidance on their potential for future use. The report covers the methodology used, including looking at some more recent advances that may make some of this redundant. It also examines some of the key archaeological findings and assesses what types of features were recorded, together with some suggestions as to why this occurred. It ends with some conclusions as to the usefulness of the technique and how they might be improved on using new developments in the field. |
