Abstract: |
Archaeology South-East (ASE), the contracting division of the Centre for Applied Archaeology (CAA), Institute of Archaeology (IoA), University College London (UCL) was commissioned by JA Consulting, to undertake Level II historic building recording and trial trench evaluation at the site of The Martlets, Sea Road, East Preston, West Sussex, BN16 1JP. The site is centred on National Grid Reference (NGR) TQ 07098 02242. Three evaluation trenches were excavated. Trench 1 was truncated by a modern drain and soakaway, and no features were encountered in Trenches 1 and 3. The only archaeology identified comprised a post-medieval red brick wall, which probably related to 'Lorne Villa' which was in existence from around 1870 until at least 1930, and demolished before 1960. |
