Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology in April 2016 at 1-7 Wellington Street, Gloucester. Two trenches were excavated. The evaluation identified four ditches, all of later Roman date, within the site. The ditches/gully identified are interpreted as being agricultural in origin and most probably represent a continuation of the field system identified during a preceding watching brief immediately to the north in Hampden Way Car Park. The fields/enclosures would have formed part of the wider agricultural hinterland immediately outwith the Roman town. No evidence of human remains associated with the Roman Barton cemetery was encountered. |
