Abstract: |
On the 19th December 2017, Britannia Archaeology Ltd (BA) undertook an archaeological evaluation by means of trial trenching at Land Adjacent 155 The Street, Rushmere St Andrew, Suffolk prior to the construction of two dwellings. The requirement for the evaluation consisted of linear trial trenching to sample the proposed development area. This took the form of three trenches, each measuring 20.00m x 1.80m. The archaeological background for the site suggested that there would be a specific potential for medieval features and finds, on the basis of the proximity to the medieval church of St Andrew. Despite this, the archaeological evaluation encountered no archaeological features or finds. The uppermost layer of the stratigraphic sequence for the site was a garden soil layer, below this the trenching showed that the subsoil and natural geology had been heavily truncated by modern tree root intrusions, this was especially noticeable- in trenches 1 and 2. |
