Abstract: |
Fifteen evaluation trenches were excavated across Site A in advance of the construction of a housing estate. The trenches were excavated to naturally occurring deposits, which was identified as Middle Chalk, consistent with the known natural stratigraphy. Within one trench a natural depression was filled with naturally accumulated colluvial deposits overlying the natural Middle Chalk. A number of linear features, considered to be agricultural field boundaries, were recorded in several trenches in the centre and north of the site. The archaeological sequence was completed across the site by subsoil and modern topsoil. |
