Abstract:
In February 2015, a programme of archaeological observation, investigation and recording was undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology during groundworks associated with the development of a solar farm at Homestead Farm, Paulerspury, Northamptonshire. A previous geophysical survey and trial trench evaluation recorded the remains of an Early to Middle Iron Age settlement in the southern part of the site, comprising a complex of enclosure and ring ditches plus associated pits, postholes and smaller ditches. As such, the development groundworks were restricted to the northern part of the site only. The programme of archaeological observation, investigation and recording identified no archaeological remains within the area of the observed groundworks. The absence of archaeological deposits is in line with the result of the previous geophysical survey and evaluation, both of which recorded no archaeological feature in the area of the monitored groundworks. This supports the evaluation conclusion that the Iron Age activity was largely confined to the southern part of the site.
