Abstract: |
Headland Archaeology (UK) Ltd was commissioned by CgMs Consulting acting as Agents to Newland Homes Limited to undertake a programme of historic building recording and documentary research at Newark Farm, Hempsted, Gloucestershire. The current buildings at Newark Farm represent the remaining shells of a range of 19th century utilitarian buildings that once constituted part of a sizeable farmyard, originally laid out in a rectangular plan around two central yards. These agricultural buildings once provided animal stalls, cart storage, processing and implement sheds necessary for a farm to function as both an arable and livestock farm. However the remaining buildings that are present on the site today form only a portion of the original farm and have been much altered and adapted from their original appearance, reflecting the economic decline of Newark arm. |
