Abstract: |
In September 2018 Archaeological Solutions (AS) carried out an archaeological evaluation on land at Wood Lane, Oulton, Lowestoft, Suffolk (NGR TM 512 941). The evaluation was undertaken in compliance with the initial requirements of a planning condition attached to planning approval for proposed construction of a single new dwelling (Waveney Planning Ref DC/18/0467/ARM), based on the advice of Suffolk County Council Archaeological Service Conservation Team. The Suffolk Historic Environment Record notes that the site is in an area of high archaeological potential located overlooking the River Lothing to the south and the Oulton marshes to the west and thus attractive to early occupation. Archaeological investigations to the west have indeed revealed numerous multi-period archaeological remains (HER OUL 037) and cropmarks of archaeological features have been recorded across the area (HER OUL 024). The site thus had the potential to reveal further evidence of multi-period archaeological remains, however, the trial trench revealed no archaeological features or finds. |
