Abstract: |
A geophysical survey, comprising detailed magnetometry, was carried out by Archaeological Surveys Ltd within the northern part of a single arable field at Broad Blunsdon, Swindon. The results indicate evidence for quarrying in the north western part of the site and a positive rectilinear anomaly which may relate to a surrounding enclosure ditch, although it could be associated with the orientation of two sets of ridge and furrow or a geological feature. Another zone of ground disturbance is evident further east and this appears to be associated with ridge and furrow. However, it is not clear if it has been caused by it, or if it relates to former quarrying disturbed by ridge and furrow. A small group of positive responses have been located in the north eastern part of the site, although it is uncertain whether they relate to cut features or have an association with ridge and furrow. |
