Abstract: |
The results of a desk-based appraisal, geophysical survey, heritage impact assessment and walkover survey undertaken on land at Mitchell Fruit Garden, Mitchell, Cornwall. This work was undertaken by South West Archaeology Ltd. at the request of Amy Jenkin of Coastline Housing Ltd. (the Client), in order to inform the future use/development of the site. The historic background to the site and the Historic Environment Record indicate the potential for Prehistoric and medieval activity on the proposed site. However, the walkover and geophysical surveys have failed to identify any significant archaeological remains on the site. The potential for shallow and ephemeral post- and stakeholes to be present, relating to the probable use of the site as a fair, is likely to have been compromised by extensive disturbance caused by the modern horticultural use of the site. The archaeological potential of the site is therefore assessed as low. |
