Abstract: |
An excavation was carried out in January-February 2018 over the full development area at 30 Church Lane, covering approximately 2475m square in order to further investigate features encountered during the previous evaluation. A series of enclosures dating to the 10th-12th centuries were recorded with three principal phases of activity dating from the Roman to 12th century. |

Note: |
Full excavation of site prior to residential development. The site had previously been evaluated. Evidence of mid to late Saxon field systems and stock control areas were recorded. The latter had continued into the 12th century. The site represents marginal 'fen-edge' grazing areas. Some residual Roman artefacts were recovered, suggesting a Roman presence nearby, possibly a building.
