Abstract:
In March 2019 Suffolk Archaeology Community Interest Company (SACIC) undertook a detailed fluxgate gradiometer survey on land reserved for an agricultural reservoir, which lies to the east of Blaxhall Church Road, Blaxhall, Suffolk. A total area of 2.65ha was prospected for anomalies of an archaeological derivation, within the cut line of the proposed reservoir. The detailed fluxgate gradiometer survey recorded a narrow range of geophysical anomalies, indicative of relic field boundary ditches, archaeological pits, backfilled quarry pits and agricultural furrows, anomalies of unknown derivation were further prospected in the dataset. Overall, the results of the non-intrusive survey reveal a low to moderate potential for magnetic anomalies of an archaeological origin.
