Abstract:
Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by CgMs Consulting to undertake a detailed gradiometer survey over land off St Andrew's Road, Warminster, West Wiltshire. The Site comprises a single pasture field of 7ha, immediately west of St Andrew's Road. The survey has demonstrated the presence of anomalies of possible archaeological interest within the survey area, along with regions of magnetic disturbance, ferrous response and modern services. Three modern services were identified as running through the northern half of the Site, all of which appear to be ferrous pipes oriented roughly northwest-southeast, northeast-southwest and east-west. All three continue beyond the limits of the geophysical survey. Ploughing trends are visible throughout the entire survey area and other evidence of agricultural activity is present in the form of field drains. Pit-like responses have been classified as being of possible archaeological interest, although it is possible that some are the result of natural processes or agricultural activity.
