Abstract: |
On site of new school. Combined archaeological strip, map and sample excavation (Area 3) and evaluation comprising 5 trial trenches across remainder of site. Two ditches and a gully containing a small quantity of worked flint and two sherds of later Neolithic or earlier Bronze Age pottery and an undiagnostic prehistoric sherd) were uncovered in excavation area, together with number of irregular natural features. It is suggested that the remains represent a prehistoric field system. One undated ditch and a modern ditch (former field boundary) with associated modern post-hole and an undated ditch were uncovered in trial trenches. No further work proposed bar summary note in in the Proceedings of the Devon Archaeological Society. In the fullness of time, should an overarching collated publication relating to the archaeology of the entire Seabrooks Orchard development be produced, these results should be incorporated. |
