Abstract: |
Four geoarchaeological test pits were excavated in advance of construction of a proposed toddlers play area. A deep Holocene and Pleistocene sedimentary sequence was recorded, which correlates well with that observed during the 2nd stage evaluation carried out in 2009, prior to the development of the car park. Two residual pieces of worked flint and two burnt flint pieces were recovered from a colluvial deposit. In addition a watching brief was undertaken in an area 850 m to the west of the geoarchaeological test-pits during groundworks associated with the replacement of play equipment. No archaeological deposits were observed. |
