Abstract:
In May 2018 Archaeological Solutions Ltd carried out archaeological monitoring and recording on land at the former Lucky Break Site, 1A Tayfen Road, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk (NGR TL 853 649; Figs. 1 - 2). The monitoring was undertaken in compliance with a planning condition attached to planning approval for the construction of a new residential development of new flats, conversion of existing buildings, new car parking and landscaping (St Edmundsbury Council Ref. DC/16/0267), based on advice from Suffolk County Council Archaeological Service Conservation Team (SCC AS-CT). Monitoring took place during the ground reduction. With the exception of wall, M1001, only deep modern deposits of made ground were present across the site. Of these layers L1004 and L1008 contained modern CBM. It was evident that the site was much truncated, and archaeological features if present will have been removed. No residual finds were present. Wall, M1001, consisted of red bricks and flint cobbles laid in irregular courses. This was modern in date and represents the only feature on this site.
