Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology in December 2015 on land adjacent to Gretton Road, Gotherington, Gloucestershire. Ten trenches were excavated. A series of penannular enclosures were identified which correlated closely with geophysical anomalies. Pottery recovered from the enclosure ditches suggests they are later prehistoric and/or early Roman in origin, and most probably represent animal enclosures rather than settlement activity. Remnants of extant ridge and furrow, albeit denuded by modern ploughing, were present throughout the trenches. |
