Abstract: |
The project comprised the excavation and recording of eight trenches across a proposed development area. A further trench measuring 7 metres was excavated to the southeast of Trench 7, in order to test whether feature [707] continued to the south. Possible archaeological features were only present in Trenches 5 and 7. Of these, only feature [707] can be securely dated to the early Bronze Age as the Iron Age material present in possible former hedgerow [503] was almost certainly residual in context. The results of the geophysical survey (Substrata, 2014) roughly correlated with the identified archaeological features, with further positive results most likely due to the variation in the natural deposits across the study area. The results of these works suggest the likelihood of further dispersed and isolated archaeological deposits within the study area, which are most likely to be Prehistoric in date. |
