Abstract:
A Written Scheme of Investigation for a programme of archaeological works has been researched and prepared by CgMs Consulting on behalf of Redrow Homes Limited to address condition 18 attached to planning permission for residential development at Harding Avenue, Tattenhall, Cheshire. The WSI proposes a programme of archaeological topographic survey, a metal detecting survey and trial trenching. The results of the topographic and metal detecting surveys will be used to inform the locations of the trenches as part of an iterative process. The initial trench layout, which investigates 2.5% of the site by area, has been designed to focus upon former field boundaries, to determine their nature and date. Further contingency trenching, equivalent to 0.5% of the site by area, will be available should the topographic or metal detecting surveys identify areas that require further investigation.
