Abstract:
A detailed gradiometry survey was conducted over approximately 28.2 hectares of agricultural land. A small number of anomalies of a probable and possible archaeological origin have been identified within the survey area including linear and curvi-linear anomalies throughout the site. These indicate the presence of cut features and banks of an archaeological origin and may be related to former field boundaries or trackways that appear on historic mapping of the site. There are also areas of magnetic variation in the west of the site which may be of an archaeological origin related to the plantation; however their ambiguous shape means that they could also have been caused by natural pedology. In the centre and south west of the site there are areas of modern agricultural activity such as ploughing, and there are a number of modern services present in the eastern half of the survey area. There are areas of land drains in the north and east of the site and areas of magnetic disturbance, scattered magnetic debris and a collection of magnetic spikes probably caused by modern ferrous rubbish are also present in throughout the survey area. A small area of natural geological variation is also present to the north.
