Abstract: |
Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by Bennett Construction Ltd to undertake an archaeological watching brief during the development of a new university halls of residence at Friar Street, Reading, centred on National Grid Reference (NGR) 471280 173595. The fieldwork was carried out on 13th March 2014. No archaeological finds or features were observed within the test pit. All deposits within the sequence were modern made-ground deposits and the area appeared heavily truncated. It is highly likely that the construction of Bridewell house and Samuel House had destroyed any potential archaeological deposits. |
