Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology in June 2019 on land adjacent to The Croft, Mellis Road, Wortham. Three trenches were excavated across the planned area to be affected by footings for new dwellings. Two ditches and a gully were identified within the trenches, all orientated broadly on a south-east/north-west orientation, with artefacts recovered including nails, pottery, worked flints and lava-stone quernstone fragments with dates ranging from the Palaeolithic to the post-medieval period. One ditch and the adjacent gully are believed to be of Roman origin, while the second ditch is undated. |
