Abstract: |
Work continued from 2003. Previously a watching brief on 21a Wilshaw Avenue was part of the comprehensive redevelopment of a block between Tanner's Hill, Pearson's Avenue and Wilshaw Street. Work on new foundation trenches of 19 Wilshaw Avenue was monitored. A red-brick well was exposed towards the east side and a wall on the west, aligned with Wilshaw Street, cut through post medieval dumps and into alluvial deposits. The wall was also brick-built and had a small stone foundation at 1.4m below the surface. Natural Terrace gravels were located approximately 2m below ground level. |
