Abstract:
Wessex Archaeology was commissioned to undertake an archaeological assessment of 2018 geophysical survey data as part of the heritage annual monitoring process for aggregate extraction Area 473. The overall aim of this report is to provide an archaeological review of the effects of dredging upon known archaeological sites and previously identified geophysical anomalies that may potentially be of archaeological interest; and to assess the area for any new anomalies that may be of potential archaeological interest. A total of 24 anomalies of archaeological potential have been identified within the Study Area. Eight anomalies have been discriminated as A1 - Anthropogenic origin of archaeological interest. These anomalies were classified as wreck material or related structural debris. Sixteen anomalies were discriminated as A2 - Uncertain origin of possible archaeological interest.
