Abstract:
The cut and fill trench passed through an area of early-middle Saxon and earlier medieval (11th century) settlement represented by ditches and pits. It was also argued that the investigation area was within the field system of the Drop Short Roman villa estate. A refined boundary marked by a ditch was found to the rear of the High Street sewer pipe system. This was considered to be of medieval or post-medieval date. [Au(abr)]
