Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was required by the Central Scotland Green Network Trust at Cambuskenneth Abbey, Stirling, during tree planting to re-create part of the Tower Orchard. Although the site lies outside the Scheduled Monument area of Cambuskenneth Abbey a previous phase of test pitting (AOC 2015) found Medieval ceramics on site. As such Stirling Council has requested archaeological monitoring of all ground breaking work involved in the tree planting. The watching brief involved archaeological supervision of twenty two hand dug pits for the planting of new trees. These measured approximately 0.3m by 0.3m to a depth of around 0.2m into the topsoil. A small collection of ceramics was recovered comparable to those recovered during the 2015 test pit excavations. No significant unexpected archaeological finds or deposits were encountered. |
