Abstract: |
From the 5th to the 9th September 2019 Britannia Archaeology LTD (BA) undertook a trial trench evaluation at Land West of Oak Barn, Green Street, Elsenham, Essex (TL 5496625480). The archaeological background for the site suggested that there was a moderate potential for finds and features relating to the Prehistoric Period and a moderate to high potential for remains on the site relating to the Roman period. The potential for later medieval and post-medieval activity associated with the development of the village was considered moderate, while archaeology relating to remaining periods was considered low. Despite the potential no archaeological features were encountered within the trial trenches. No dating evidence beyond recent modern material was found in the topsoil or subsoil. |
