Abstract: |
Archaeology South-East was commissioned by Wilmott Dixon to undertake an archaeological evaluation at Smitham Primary School, Portnalls Road, Coulsdon, London Borough of Croydon. The evaluation comprised two machine excavated trenches. Natural Lewes Chalk and Head deposits were recorded at between 82.37m and 82.85m aOD. The site had undergone severe truncation associated with the construction of the school and its car park. Machine scars were observed truncating the natural deposits. In both trenches the natural deposits were sealed by modern layers associated with the construction of the car park. No archaeological remains were recorded on this part of the site. |
