Abstract: |
An archaeological trench evaluation was undertaken by AC archaeology during June 2020 ahead of a residential development on land southwest Knapp Farm, Dulford, Devon. The site lies close to the A373, some 4km to the east of Cullompton and 500m northwest of Dulford. The site lies in an area that contains several possible prehistoric barrows. The trial trench evaluation comprised the machine excavation of two trenches totalling 26m in length, with each trench 1.6m wide. These were positioned to target the location of the proposed new dwelling and associated sewage treatment works. The results from the trial trenches were negative with only a simple agricultural soil sequence overlying the natural subsoil exposed. No evidence for activity associated with the nearby possible prehistoric barrows was evident. |
