Abstract:		 Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by Landmarc Support Services Ltd to undertake an archaeological watching brief during groundworks at Kimmeridge Hut, Kimmeridge Bay, Dorset (National Grid Reference 390890 078795). These works were associated with the installation of a new ducting and CCTV base. The watching brief was conducted in accordance with a Written Scheme of Investigation prepared in advance by Wessex Archaeology . The site is located within a Scheduled Monument (list entry 1017307) for alum works, other multi-period industrial remains and an associated group of jetties and breakwaters. As a result, the works required the issue of Scheduled Monument Consent. As a condition of the Scheduled Monument Consent (ref: S00147105) a watching brief was required during the necessary groundworks. This was undertaken on the 25th May 2017. The monitored works comprised the excavation of a 0.3 m wide trench for the ducting which extended 2.2 m north-westwards from the current range wardens hut and was 0.3 m deep. An area 1.2 m by 1.5 m was excavated through an adjacent concrete slab for the footing. Although the latter excavation was up to 0.6 m deep this was still within the modern overburden. No evidence for any archaeological features deposits or finds was found during the course of the watching brief.
