Abstract: |
As part of the London Gateway Port archaeological mitigation strategy two wrecks requiring clearance were identified for in-water archaeological observation and recording, as defined in the LG Archaeological Methods and Procedures document under Mitigation H and agreed with English Heritage. A description of Mitigation H has been appended to this document for convenience. The two sites identified as appropriate for this method of mitigation, are the ‘Pottery Wreck’ (5204) and ‘the Unknown Wreck/Old Timbers and Concrete’ (5051). This document outlines the methodology for In-Water Archaeological Observation and Recording during the clearance undertaken. The Port of London Authority (PLA) will undertake the work with Wessex Archaeology (WA) providing archaeological support. Details of the locations, site histories, investigations to date, and the full mitigation strategies adopted for these sites is documented in the Clearance Mitigation Statements (CMS). |
