Abstract: |
5 bulk samples were taken from a range of features such as pits and gullies and were processed for the recovery and assessment of charred plant remains and charcoal. The size of the samples varied between 6 and 40l., and on average was around 22l. The purpose of this assessment is the evaluation of the quality of plant remains preserved at the site and the potential for further analysis to address specific site archaeological issues and to provide archaeobotanical data valuable for wider research frameworks.
The archaeobotanical assemblages have environmental and radiocarbon dating potential and analysis and publication is recommended. A full list of suitable samples will be proposed should more phases of fieldwork were to follow.
The assemblages recovered so far and detailed in this report require no further analysis but should be published, as they provide information on the settlement and the local environment and the available evidence in the region is very rare. The potential of this data should be strengthened by radiocarbon dating, which would also help clarifying the chronology of the features. |
