Abstract:		 In 2014, Central Bedfordshire Council granted outline planning consent for a housing-led urban extension to the north of Houghton Regis - a development known as Houghton Regis North 1 (HRN1). During December 2018 and January 2019 Albion Archaeology undertook an open-area excavation along a 3.5m-wide, c.350m-long corridor adjacent to the Ouzel Brook . The earliest evidence of human activity comprised a single ditch containing late Iron Age/early Roman pottery with no later Roman wares. The investigations revealed part of a large Roman settlement believed to extend over 5ha identified by geophysics and trial trenching undertaken as part of the evaluation
