Abstract:
Historic building recording works undertaken at 57 Mill Street, Drummore, Wigtownshire, Dumfries and Galloway (NGR: NX 13647 36740). The proposed works comprise: alterations and change of use of former storage building to form dwellinghouse and siting of an oil tank (planning application no. 19/ 1062/FUL). The building proposed for conversion is an early nineteenth century warehouse (MDG17611) which is category C listed (LB10098). The building, which is prominently sited on the corner of Mill Street and Shore Street in Drummore, was formerly used for the storage of grain in connection with Drummore Mill. Drummore Mill, which was sited midway up Mill Street to the south, was demolished in the1970s. As the proposal involved alteration of a building dating from 19th century, which is of local vernacular interest. Dumfries and Galloway Council attached a condition to the proposal requiring archaeological works to be undertaken prior to commencement of any alterations. The works consisted of an historic building recording works comprising a Basic Survey of the buildings (as defined in the ALGAO Scotland Buildings Guidance, 2013) to include: a fully catalogued photographic record of the elevations, both internal and external, of the standing building; a written description and recording of any architectural features of note.
