Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology in September 2016 at a proposed Aldi site, Gogmore Lane, Chertsey, Surrey. Eight trenches were excavated. The evaluation revealed evidence of low level late post medieval to early modern activity across the eastern part of the site, in the form of one ditch, one large pit, two post holes and one small wall. The archaeology identified correlates well with the known development of the site in the mid to late 19th century by the Lion Brewery and its eventual demolition and redevelopment in the mid-20th century. |
