Abstract:
Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by Royal HaskoningDHV to undertake an archaeological assessment of the results of two Offshore Verification of Possible Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) Targets surveys, undertaken by MMT on behalf of Statoil in at Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm. The 2014 UXO survey comprised a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) investigation within a 150 m buffer of 15 of the proposed 67 turbines and along a section of the Export Cable Route. A further UXO survey was undertaken in April to May 2015, at various wind turbines, along the inter-array cables and the export cable route. The 2014 UXO survey comprised a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) investigation within a 150 m buffer of 15 of the proposed 67 turbines and along a section of the Export Cable Route. 62 targets were located, 40 of which were boulders, and the remaining 22 were archaeologically assessed. Of these, seven were assessed as of possible archaeological interest, eight were assessed as 19th or 20th century metal debris and four were unidentified. A further UXO survey was undertaken in April to May 2015, at various wind turbines, along the inter-array cables and the export cable route. This UXO survey identified 274 anomalies, comprising: 26 targets of sufficient archaeological assessment for reporting through the Offshore Renewables Protocol for Archaeological Discoveries (ORPAD); 35 targets for further assessment by Wessex Archaeology; 43 targets of low archaeological interest; 167 targets that were not archaeological; and four targets that remained unresolved.
