Abstract: |
Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by Geffrey Osbourne Limited to conduct an archaeological evaluation on the footprint of proposed new student accommodation blocks at the University College of the Arts, Falkner Road, Farnham, Surrey, centred on National Grid Reference 483532 147017. A planning application (WA/2018/0830) has been submitted to and permission granted by Waverley Borough Council subject to a number of conditions, including one relating to archaeology. The evaluation comprised three 20 m by 2 m wide trenches targetted over the proposed location for two of the new buildings. No archaeological features or deposits were noted, the only cut features recorded were a single modern posthole, three modern service trenches and a patch of modern disturbance. The area had been previously stripped, the overburden comprised indurated hardcore overlying a thin layer of silty clay which had modern components including brick and concrete, a sharp horizon demarcated the boundary between this and the natural. The evaluation was completed over two days, 27th - 28th August 2019. |
