Abstract: |
An earthwork survey and trial trench evaluation of land was carried out at Brownsover Lane, Old Brownsover. The earthwork survey identified house platforms and ridge and furrow earthworks. The archaeological remains found by the trial trenching comprised medieval ditches where the earthwork survey had suggested there had been plot boundaries. A single posthole was located within a suggested house platform. Residual late Saxon pottery indicates the settlement had started in the 10th century in this area. After abandonment in the 14th century the site reverted to fields, with arable farming over most of the site. A single post-medieval ditch was also found. |
