Abstract: |
The results of the Watching Brief show archaeological remains were present within the development area comprising large medieval quarry pits which contained heated ironstone and iron slag. It is likely the pits were dug for the extraction of ironstone to smelt. The activity dates between 1100-1640 and is consistent with pitting occurring at the back of medieval properties. |
