Abstract: |
Fieldwalking in transects, the site being marked out in a grid of 10 metre cells, aligned at 90 degrees to the Devils Dyke. Finds collected, bagged and recorded by measuring to the National Grid. Occupation of the area is first evidenced in the early Iron Age to the north-east of the later villa site; pottery finds increase into the early Roman period, together with hints of an early building. Occupation increased through the Romano-British era, but by the medieval period, the site appears to have returned to agriculture. Many of the finds were extremely degraded. |
