Abstract: |
Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by AEE Renewables Plc. to undertake a detailed gradiometer survey over land on Tower Hill Farm, near Tytherington, South Gloucestershire, ahead of a proposed development. The site comprises of six pasture fields directly north and west off New Road and Cuttsheath Road and straddles a small valley towards the north of the site. The gradiometer survey was conducted using a Bartington Grad 601-2 dual fluxgate gradiometer instrument and has demonstrated the presence of anomalies of probable and possible archaeological interest within the survey area, along with regions of magnetic disturbance and ferrous response. A low concentration of archaeological features were identified across the site with several isolated pits, ditch sections and possible quarry pits accounting for the majority of the potential archaeological features. In addition to these archaeological features numerous agricultural features were detected including drains, ploughing scars and former field boundaries. |
